BOYD WOMAN INJURED IN WRECK — A Boyd woman was taken to a Fort Worth hospital after a truck lost control and rolled upside down in a creek between Boyd and Paradise Friday night. Texas Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Sgt. Ricky Hunter said the one-vehicle wreck happened at approximately 5:15 pm on Texas 114. Preliminary investigation indicates a 1997 Mazda pickup, driven by Nicolas Anderson of Boyd was traveling east on Texas 114. The Mazda was traveling at an unsafe speed for the weather conditions and lost control, Hunter said. The Mazda drove into a creek and came to rest upside down. The passenger, Ally Evans of Boyd, was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with serious injuries. Wise County EMS and the Boyd Fire Department joined Texas DPS troopers at the scene.


BURN BAN — After temporarily lifting the burning ban during the weekend, Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty put the ban back in place Sunday night. The 90-day ban runs into early April.

NEW FAIRVIEW CONSIDERS REMOVAL OF CITY ADMINISTRATOR — The New Fairview City Council will consider removing City Administrator Ben Nibarger during its meeting at 7 pm The council has it on the agenda to remove Nibarger with or without cause. Nibarger was hired in July 2020 and was given a five-year contract by the council in April 2021. Hired at $87,000, his new contract elevated his pay to $105,000; $130,000 and $150,000 for the next three fiscal years.

THAWING OUT — Temperatures are expected to warm into the mid-50s this afternoon, helping to melt the remaining patches of ice left from last week’s winter storm.

UIL REALIGNMENT — The biennial UIL football realignment Thursday brought a couple of surprises for Wise County football teams. Decatur will remain close to home for the next two seasons in District 4-4A Division I, with previous foes Burkburnett and Springtown. Mineral Wells and Wichita Falls High were brought into the league after the departure of Gainesville, Hirschi and Lake Worth. Bridgeport will move from Region I to Region II, joining a 5-4AII district with Aubrey, Farmersville, Gainesville, Krum, Sanger and Van Alstyne. Boyd and Paradise remain in 4-3AI with Brock, Paradise, Peaster, Pilot Point, Ponder and Whitesboro. The lone team departing the league was Bowie. Alvord is on the move to 6-2AI with Nocona, Tioga, Tom Bean, Trenton and Whitewright. Chico will also change districts, joining 8-2AII with Celeste, Collinsville, Era, Lindsay, Muenster and Santo. GIRLS BASKETBALL RESULTS — Decatur claimed a 76-31 District 7-4A win over Lake Worth Saturday. Landri Chapman led the team with 17 points. In 10-3A, Boyd fell to Whitesboro 40-26.

BOYS BASKETBALL RESULTS — Coleman Dykes hit four 3-pointers and finished with 25 points in Decatur’s 79-54 District 7-4A win over Lake Worth Saturday.

MONDAY BASKETBALL — Several Wise County teams will take part in rescheduled district basketball games tonight. Bridgeport will play a 7-4A contest at Castleberry tonight (6/7:30 pm). Paradise will travel to S&S for 10-3A games at 5 and 6:30 pm In 13-2A, Chico will welcome Wise County rival Alvord (6:30/8 pm).

WISE COUNTY TAX PREPARATION — Anyone with a lower income can get free help filing taxes. Volunteers from AARP will be at the Decatur Public Library, 1700 FM 51 South, on Mondays. This year they scan your documents and prepare your tax return remotely. Appointments needed. Volunteers can also prepare your taxes online, any day, without coming to the library.
