Physical season 2, episode 10 recap – the final and ending explained

Summary

The show covers familiar ground again but utilizes a much-loved cast and some fun montage sequences to remain light and breezy. A slight disappointment overall.

This recap of the Apple TV+ series Physical season 2, episode 10, “Don’t You Say It’s Over,” — the finale and ending explained — contains spoilers.

In the season finale, both Sheila and Danny lawyer up as things start to get a tad tetchy between the two warring parents, whilst Sheila’s new business venture burns through capital on its way to market. The series comes to some form of conclusion with “Don’t You Say It’s Over,” yet seems to have made limited plot progression when you consider how season two began, with things (frustratingly) going full circle once again.

Physical season 2, episode 10 recap – the finale and ending explained

Danny and Sheila appear to have separated, with Sheila visibly enjoying the single life. She starfishes on her marital bed and the next day is in entrepreneurial mode, relaunching her business and prototyping a new product. Greta and Ernie are on hand to aid in this process, nodding at her every decision, flummoxed by this whirlwind dictator. Sheila has learned from the best and is now an unstoppable force of nature, taking no nonsense and critiquing every detail. She’s producing a fitness step and in a fun, fast-paced montage, she pulls apart every prototype placed before her, until she is satisfied with the fifth iteration.

Broken husband Danny has been kicked out of his home, reduced to sulking in a cheap hotel bachelor pad. The ex-politician has started a new job though and is trying to get in shape. A trip to the gym results in bloody knuckles as he lets all that anger out on a punching bag, then he spies his mortal enemy John Breem at a tap dancing class. The devilish Mormon looks downright jovial as he dances away his own anxieties, which only angers Danny further. The two meet in the parking lot afterwards. Danny looks set to fight, but remains calm. John comes across as righteous and holier-than-thou, saying he pities Danny and that he has no excuses for his actions. Danny controls his emotions and holds back, but you know he wants to attack.

Ernie and Danny meet later that night to catch up over drinks. Danny explains his lackluster circumstances and really doesn’t downplay the loneliness factor. Ernie is expecting talk of one night stands and unparalleled freedom, but Danny doesn’t sugar-coat single life one bit. His old friend has ulterior motives though, eager to discuss legal matters instead. He explains that Danny is entitled to half of Sheila’s and has specific rights as a co-owner in the business. Ernie implies that Danny could still get something out of this messy divorce.

Danny wastes no time in addressing this elephant in the room with his wife. Sheila is practically venomous at Danny’s proposal though, and fights back. She is enraged that he believes he is entitled to half her wealth after one brainstorming session. The bitter wife calls him selfish and vandalizes his equipment, but Danny stands up for himself (for once), bringing up her lies and the affair.

Two suited Mormons visit Bunny and Tyler, who are living it up south of the border. They have been sent by John Breem, who has informed the Mormons that the lucky couple have been blessed with great riches and may want to share this fortune with the church. Sheila chats with rehab bestie Harriet and Greta falls out with Ernie in the bedroom. Sheila then seeks her own legal advice, asking about Danny’s claims to half her earnings. The lawyer admits that it is state law and half-jokingly Sheila asks about any other, illegal options she may have.

At her very own product launch party, Sheila makes a big speech, thanking Greta for her involvement and explaining the importance of spreading her message globally. Exercise saved her life and she now wants others to benefit from it too. Danny arrives unannounced hoping to ruin her fun, he mentions an actress who has launched an identical product, which is currently advertising on TV. Sheila watches the infomercial in horror and that niggling voice comes back again. The self-hate returns, but Sheila has methods to deal with it now and a fight still burning within her, she won’t be giving up so easily.

The ending

In the final scene, Sheila marches over to John’s office and throws verbal insults at the man. The two lovers stand intoxicatingly close to one another. She calls him greedy and vulgar, but then says that she loves him. Sheila asks for his help, explaining that she has two adversaries. I think this implies her greedy husband Danny and her new rival fitness celebrity with the carbon-copy business. John asks what her end goal is and she replies with ‘annihilation’, hinting at a waging war to come.

That concludes the second season, with Sheila once again fighting for her business and relying on the wealth and power of her secret lover John. This is similar territory for the show, but mentally Sheila has progressed quite a great deal, addressing her eating disorder and silencing that voice in her head, which sets us up nicely for a third season.
