Mum faceplants ground at school sports day race and ends up mooning crowd of other parents

A “clumsy” mum taking part in a school sports day race ended up faceplanting the ground and mooning the crowd of watching parents. Katie Hannaford laughed the incident off, saying she found it hilarious, when many would be having nightmares about it for years.

The mum’s race took place as part of sports day at her daughter’s school in Basildon, Essex, on June 15. Footage of her fall has been shared all over social media including by Katie herself, who wrote in an initial post on Facebook before it emerged somebody had recorded it on their phone: “Great day at sports day for my little cherub. Come first in her race as well; love her. Lessons learned… I’m no longer 21 and shouldn’t run in the mums’ race and don’t ever wear a dress when running!”

In a later post on her public Facebook account she shared a TikTok post of the clip which was already on its way to going viral, adding: “When the kids got more at sports day than they were expecting! Haha. laugh at yourself then what’s life about ay! Sorry kiddos and anyone else watching!”

A Facebook friend of Katie’s commented on her post saying: “Omg thanks for sharing the video, got me bloody howling.” Various posts on TikTok sharing the same clip have been viewed thousands of times but clearly Katie isn’t fazed by her newfound fame, seeing the funny side. She told SWNS: “I’m not sporty at all, but [my daughter] kept begging me. In the end I agreed to the race – I knew I’d come last. I just tripped over my own feet. I think my body was just moving too fast for my legs! I’m so clumsy, I’m always falling over.

“I was humiliated at the time, but it is what it is! I flashed my underwear, which is obviously embarrassing, but you just have to own it. Looking back, it’s hilarious – definitely the funniest thing I’ve ever done in my life!”

TikTok has become the go-to place for sharing hilarious or bizarre clips. In North London a group of people appeared to have used a nearby home’s electricity to hook up a huge TV and PlayStation to play FIFA on the street. On the London Underground a pigeon hopped onto a Tube, did a poo then got off at the next stop, with a TikTok video gaining thousands of views. And a Tube driver became an internet star after their hilarious announcements were enjoyed by passengers so much some even stayed on past their stop to listen.
