Mansfield Lake Ridge quarterback Kennen Miller(Mansfield Lake Ridge High School)

Who is he: A 5-foot-10, 176-pound sophomore quarterback. He played six games as a freshman, passing for 1,167 yards and 17 touchdowns with three interceptions. He for 571 yards and four touchdowns with four 100-yard games in 2021. Lake Ridge was 3-2 with Miller as a starting quarterback last year in a 3-7 campaign.

He said it: “My favorite play was a 33-yard sideline pass to Jamaal Hall in the second quarter. He made a great over-the-shoulder catch and got both feet down. … Before the game I knew we could do this. Everybody had been talking about this game since last year. I knew we had great receivers and a great o-line and we could hang with them all day. When Raycine Guillory got that 61-yard touchdown run (to open scoring in the first quarter) that was proof. … In the offseason I worked the most on passing mechanics, especially on my feet. In the past I would take off and run a little too fast. Now I focus more on passing if it’s there.”

Coach said it: “What Kennen does best in extend plays. He’s way cool under pressure and he’s even-keeled. Pressure doesn’t seem to get to him. It’s fun to see the growth in his game since last year,” Lake Ridge coach Kirk Thor said.

Did you know? A lifelong area resident, Miller has played football since he was four years old, starting with the South Arlington Cowboys. He played six other positions before settling in at quarterback in the sixth grade … He attended a SMU football camp this past summer. … His favorite course in school is math, especially algebra. … Miller plans on majoring in architecture in college and would like build homes for a career. … His favorite meal is homemade macaroni and cheese with hot sauce, made by his mother Cecelia Singleton, with sweet iced tea. … Miller’s favorite athlete is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, a former Allen High School standout.
