Laurence J. Yannie “Larry”, 86, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Randolph, NY, passed away Jan. 31, 2022, at home.

He was the husband of Bethany Lindquist Yannie, whom he married June 9, 1962.

He was born Dec. 10, 1935, to the late Joseph and Antoinette Yannie. Larry grew up in Coudersport, Pa., along with his nine siblings.

After high school, Larry moved to Falconer, NY, where he was employed for many years by Carborundum. He served in management positions and union representative in both Falconer, NY and Indiana locations. Larry left Indiana moving his family back to Randolph, NY In 1970, he received a degree of associate in applied science from Jamestown Community College.

Larry, along with his wife Bethany, owned and operated Conewango Forks Golf Club (now known as Cardinal Hills) from 1971-90. He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. The golf club was a family business as his four children also worked there. Larry was always interested in the community of Randolph, doing whatever he could for the town and its people. He was always kindhearted and generous and wanted to make it possible for all children to have the opportunity to play golf. Larry along with Mike Benca (golf instructor) revived the Junior Golf Program so that the children in the area could take lessons and play golf for a nominal membership.

Larry was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Randolph, NY, where he served as lay reader.

After retiring, he and Bethany moved to Charlotte, NC, where he was a member of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church and later a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.

Larry enjoyed golfing and woodworking, making cedar chests for his granddaughters and hardwood flooring out of cherry for the dining room in his home. He also made an entertainment center for his living room. Larry enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends having gone on trips to China, Hawaii, Italy, Cruises through the Panama Canal, Alaska, New England, several cruises to the Islands, and two extensive road trips lasting several weeks through the United States. He loved spending time with his family and liked reciting his favorite quotes to amuse his children.

Larry is survived by his wife Bethany of 59 years. His children: Pamela Clark, Laurence Yannie II and wife, Liz, Robert Yannie, Teri Young and her husband, Scott. Six grandchildren: Christopher (Aftan) Clark, Clay (Bethany) Clark, Carlie (Lloyd) Tomlinson, Katelyn (Alex) Lichorat, Ian Yannie and Jackson Young. Two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Declan Clark. And several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Larry was predeceased by is first wife, Darlene Crandall Yannie; his six sisters: Louise Camp, Mary Mitchell, Leona Shaver, Lucy White, Ann Long and Josephine Corey. Three brothers: Alex, John and Paul Yannie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2 pm, at St Martins Episcopal Church, 1510 E 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Memorials may be made in Larry’s name to the charity of your choice.
