Marvel star Chris Evans looks bloody and bruised in a behind-the-scenes image from the upcoming Netflix action-thriller, The Gray Man. The actor, who is best known for starring as the first Avenger Steve Rogers AKA Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play against type as the villain of the piece — something that he is clearly very happy about despite the beatings he has taken.
Evans shared the backstage image to his official Instagram account along with the caption, “Long day at the office.” Sporting all manner of cuts and bruises upon his A-list face, the image also once again shows off the adorably charming mustache that the actor will wear in The Gray Man. A mustache that will no doubt steal the show as Evans’ violent assassin attempts to take down Ryan Gosling’s highly skilled mercenary. This image is just one of several shared by the actor, each of which has demonstrated the real-life injuries that he has suffered in the name of our entertainment.
A synopsis, several first look images, and a release date for The Gray Man were recently revealed, with the big-budget, franchise-spawning movie set to hit Netflix in July. “When Court Gentry (Gosling), the CIA’s most skilled mercenary whose true identity is known to none, ally uncovers dark agency secrets, Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a psychopathic former colleague, puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins,” the official synopsis for The Gray Man reads.
Seeing Chris Evans transformed into a mustachioed, psychopathic killer after being so closely associated with one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most strait-laced, mightiest heroes should result in a truly crowd-pleasing performance from Evans.
The Gray Man Has Been Compared to the Acclaimed Crime Thriller, Heat
The Gray Man will see leading men and hugely talented A-listers Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling face-off, an element which has led director Joe Russo to compare the Netflix venture to the 1995 crime-thriller classic, Heat. Directed by Michael Mann, Heat sees Al Pacino’s cop take on Robert De Niro’s criminal, with all that talent exploding off the screen. According to Russo, The Gray Man will be similarly impressive.
“It’s fantastic, it’s electric. It’s also been a long time since we’ve seen a movie like this,” Joe Russo, who will direct The Gray Man alongside his brother and collaborator Anthony Russo said of the project. “We have two big movie stars going against each other to the tradition of like De Niro and Pacino in Heat. This is an intense action film. Very, very entertaining performances from both actors, and they’re absolutely pitted against each other in the movie. And it’s a deliciously sociopathic turn for Chris Evans as the villain. He does [make a good sociopath], it’s quite entertaining. So I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
Starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Jessica Henwick, Billy Bob Thornton, and Alfre Woodard as Maurice Cahill, The Gray Man is set for a limited release on July 15, 2022, followed by its release on Netflix on July 22, 2022.
