5 things to know about violence at Dallas strip club XTC Cabaret

Dallas police are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman by security guards at XTC Cabaret strip club early Saturday morning.

The club has frequently played host to violent and fatal incidents. Here are five things to know about the club and its history.

The most recent incident happened shortly after 5 am Saturday. Police responded to the club’s parking lot where they found Shalonda Anderson, 32, shot. Anderson died at a hospital.

After the shooting, the club said Anderson drove her car into a group of security guards motioning she was driving the wrong way in the parking lot. The club also released a short video showing the seconds leading up to the shooting.

The video showed a group of people trying to jump out of the way of a car driving toward them. One person appears to take out a gun before being hit by the car.

Two security guards, a man and a woman, fired their guns. The woman fatally shot Anderson, authorities said.

One of the security guards, 30-year-old Sterlin Hammett, was arrested Monday on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

The department said the case against the woman has been referred to a grand jury. Police have not said why one guard was arrested and why the case against the other was referred to a grand jury.

Shortly before she was killed, Anderson posted a live video on Facebook showing security confronting her inside the club and asking her to leave.

In the video, a guard appears to snatch a cigar out of Anderson’s mouth after she lights it.

“You really didn’t have to touch me,” Anderson said in the video. The guards ask her to leave, but Anderson said she’s waiting on an order of food. The guards touch Anderson’s arm to usher her out of the club.

Guards follow Anderson and one of her friends outside the club. Anderson repeatedly complains the guards touched her.

“Go to the car, I got something for everybody,” Anderson said toward the end of the video.

The video was uploaded about 5:01 am — minutes before Anderson was fatally shot.

The fatal shooting was the latest in a string of violent incidents, some involving fatalities, at the club since it opened in 2009.

Other incidents include:

  • A cab driver, 30-year-old Bashir Abraham, was shot and killed in 2010 after picking up two passengers at the club. The shooting happened after his passengers got into a fight inside the club.
  • A man was shot twice during an argument outside the club in 2012.
  • In March 2013, a man was stabbed in the stomach in the parking lot.
  • In January 2014, two men were shot as they walked out of the club.
  • In January 2016, a man was shot in the chest during an argument in the club’s parking lot.
  • Another man was murdered in October 2017, and a woman was shot in the leg.
  • Two security guards were arrested after a 34-year-old man was fatally shot while trying to flee a fight in the parking lot on New Year’s Day 2019. Police said the victim, who was in his pickup, was shot more than 20 times.
  • In March 2021, a 32-year-old man was found fatally shot in the club’s parking lot.

In a statement through a spokesperson, XTC Cabaret said it is cooperating with the police investigation.

“We are very sad that this unfortunate incident occurred and at the loss of life,” the statement said. “We would like to express our deepest condolences to the families involved.”

The club said it reached out to Anderson’s family Saturday and offered to pay for her funeral.

The injured guard has multiple broken bones and was undergoing surgery Sunday, the statement said.
